A Survivor’s Journey to Safety PSA
DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence
The Challenge
In the aftermath of the pandemic, domestic violence survivors in DC faced compounded barriers to getting help. Limited access to the outside world made it harder to reach out for services, and many felt isolated and alone. DCCADV needed to raise public awareness about survivors’ needs — and meet them where they were — through a campaign that felt local, credible, and human.
The Approach & Solution
Beekeeper produced an original PSA filmed on location in DC neighborhoods, grounding the piece visually in the city through familiar bus stops and signage. That intentional local feel was key to building connection with the target audience. The PSA was designed to reach both survivors seeking help and community members with loved ones in need, tying into DCCADV’s broader True Cost of Survivor Safety campaign. To maximize reach, the spot was promoted across Facebook, Instagram, and Nextdoor, and paired with WMATA transit placements as part of a coordinated public awareness effort.
The Results
The PSA earned recognition at the 2023 Telly Awards, taking home bronze in two categories: General Public Service & Activism and General Social Impact. It continues to serve as a lasting resource for DCCADV’s awareness efforts.
