Beekeeper Group’s Day of Purpose is an annual tradition started by our friend and colleague Hannah Levy, who passed away in 2023.
To honor her legacy, Beekeeper invites our colleagues and friends in the industry to give back to the community in whatever way they can. On October 9, Beekeeper Group volunteered at DC Central Kitchen for the second year in a row. Beekeeper Group staff and friends spent the afternoon helping DCCK’s full-time staff prepare for the next day’s meals, stuffing chicken salad sandwiches, rolling burritos, and prepping salads. These shifts always feel meaningful, but this year we particularly enjoyed connecting with the other volunteers, many of whom had joined the shift due to the recent government shutdown.
Our remote Bees also participated in our Day of Purpose! Cam got his hands dirty volunteering at the GRuB Farm in Olympia, WA. GRuB is a local farm that grows healthy food for the community to help build an equitable world where all are nourished by healthy relationships, resilient community, and good food. Cam helped harvest the remaining crops ahead of the first frost of winter, gathering over 50 pounds of corn, peppers, and tomatillos.
During a year of political uncertainty, it’s easy to lose sight of what connects us. We are grateful we do work that allows us the time and energy to give back, and that we live and work in a caring community that creates opportunities to do so. Thank you to our Friends of the Hive who joined us for our shift!
